DAY 1 - Welcome to Nepal (1300m)

It is an absolute thrill flying into Kathmandu on a clear day. The views of snow-capped mountain peaks sprawling down below you begin a whole chain of memorable experiences that will stay with you for a long, long time. Your Big Journey Company representative will meet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel. After check in, there will be a welcome meeting with your Big Journey Company Tour Director and the rest of the trekking group. Here you will be briefed further on this adventure and discuss the plan for the next 4 days.
Later in the afternoon you will head out on a tour of Boudhnath Stupa. Boudhnath, less than eight kilometres from central Kathmandu, is a sacred place home to a large number of Tibetan exiles. it is noted for its sixth-century Buddhist stupa, one of the largest in the world. The stupa is surrounded by monasteries, which attract pilgrims and devotees from all over the Indian subcontinent.

DAY 2 - Acclimatisation Day

Today will be a day spent at leisure to recuperate from your flight and to acclimatise to the altitude before exercise. Take it easy and use the opportunity to explore your surroundings in a leisurely fashion. Your Big Journey Company Tour Director is on hand today.

DAY 3 - Fly to Lukla (2850 m). Trek to Phakding (2610m)

After breakfast this morning we transfer to the airport for a 45-minute flight to Lukla. After lunch, we embark on a three-hour walk to Phakding. This starts with a gentle descent beside the left bank of the Dudh Koshi River, with distant views of the peaks of Nupla and Kusumkang.
Later on today, we will enjoy an hour’s walk to Rimijung Gompa, the monastery of Sano Gomila. This is home t o a small idol, housed in a metal casket, made from the branches of a white tree that once grew here. Reaching the village of Sano Gomila, you enjoy views of Thamserku and Kusumkang before returning to our Mountain Home for the night.

DAY 4 - Phakding to Namche (3440m)

Phakding to Monjo (approximately 5 kilometres: 3 hours’ walking)
After breakfast, you will trek to the village of Monjo. Your route follows a level path along the right bank of the river. Thamserku, 6,623 metres high, looms skyward on the opposite bank. After crossing a stream and climbing the terraced hill from the Dudh Koshi route, the group will arrive at Banker. Continuing through a forest, we arrive at Chumow, where we can visit the vegetable farm. Walking along a path with numerous ups and downs, we will cross a stream and enter the small village of Monjo.
Monjo to Namche (approximately 6 kilometres: 4 to 5 hours’ walking)
After lunch, start your walk to Namche. Descending stone steps the path comes to a suspension bridge, and, after a short climb you reach Jorshale. This is the entrance to the National Park, and the group we rejoin here and our guide will pay the entrance fee as we enter. Walking beside the river, you reach a forested mountainside and pass a rocky area. After crossing a high, winding path, you descend to the riverbed and reach a V-shaped valley. The river forks here: the right stream is the Dudh Koshi and the left is the Bhote Koshi that leads to Nangpa La. Crossing another suspension bridge and walking a short distance alongside the Bhote Koshi, you ascend to Namche Bazaar. This is our destination for this evening.

DAY 5 - Namche (3440m)

After breakfast at the Mountain Home, you have five hours’ walking ahead of you, taking you across Syangboche airfield and through a small forest.
The village of Khumjung covers the largest area in Khumbu. After lunch at Khumjung, we will make a short but very interesting stop at the Khunde Hospital. Both the hospital and school here were built with funds raised by the late Sir Edmund Hillary. From here you should be able to enjoy views of majestic mountains including Thamserku, Ama Dablam, Kangtega, Lhotse and Everest.

DAY 6 - Namche to Thame (3800m)

After breakfast, the group begins our walk to Thame, which should take approximately two-and-a-half hours. This trail forms part of the entry route to Tibet, which passes near the 8,012-metre peak of Cho Oyu, first climbed in 1954.
A lunch stop is made at Thamo. After a further two hours’ walking, you reach the home village of Ang Rita Sherpa, who holds the record for scaling Mt Everest ten times without oxygen. After crossing Bhote Koshi River, you reach Thame Village, our destination for today.

DAY 7 - Thame Excursion (3800m)

After breakfast, you’ll visit the unspoilt monastery of Thame and the fascinating Nangpa La Valley, where the Tibetan traders bring their goods, carried on Yaks. Lunch will be at the lodge. After lunch you can explore the village of Thame.

DAY 8 - Thame to Monjo

After breakfast you will trek to Monjo via Namche. This should take between 5-6 hours.

DAY 9 - Monjo to Lukla

After breakfast you will trek back to Lukla. This should take the group about 4-5 hrs.

DAY 10 - Lukla to Kathmandu

Rising early this morning, we fly back to Kathmandu and take a transfer to our hotel. The rest of today will be spent as a rest day for you to recuperate and follow your own interests.

DAY 11 - Kathmandu City Tour

After breakfast, you will explore Kathmandu visiting the following iconic locations;
Durbar Square is home to Hanuman Dhoka, a historic palace named after the monkey God, Hanuman. This palace is where the Kings of Nepal are crowned. There is a statue of King Pratap Mall sitting on the stone pillar at the front and temple of Jagannath from mediaeval period. Within the walking distance you will find the tall temple of Taleju & Kumari, the residence of the Living Goddess.
Swayambhunath is a 2500 years old stupa situated on a hillock about 77 m above the ground level and overlooking Kathmandu valley.
Patan is situated in the heart of the city. The square is full of ancient palaces, temples and shrines, noted for their exquisite carvings. It was listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Monument List in 1979.

DAY 12 - Farewell to Kathmandu and Home

Following breakfast you will be transferred to the airport in time for your flight home.

  • Pricing is in US Dollars, per person sharing a room.
  • You will need to arrange your flights into Kathmandu on Day 1 of the tour.
  • Please let The Big Journey Company know prior to travelling if you have any medical needs or take any medication that we need to be made aware of to ensure that you have a safe and pleasant tour. You will embark on several strenuous treks at very high altitude, so please consult us if you have any questions about whether this Journey is right for you.
  • Check in is after 2-3pm and check out is before 10am unless otherwise specified in the itinerary.
  • Cancellation 90 - 0 days prior to departure cancellation fee is 100%. It is your responsibility to ensure the correct travel insurance in place to protect you against the need to cancel your holiday. 
  • A non-refundable deposit is due at the time of booking. Full balance will be due 14 weeks prior to departure. Full cost of any flights purchased from us is required at the time of booking.
